Ice cream bike not the one that we built

My dad and I have recently built a ice cream bike and I would like to sell ice cream sealed with the bike. So do I need any form of license to sell ice cream with my bike?

I am 17 years old and I live in Enfield so my destination of selling ice cream is Enfield and around.

You do not need a hawkers licence if you are selling victuals. However, most councils will require people trading from one place for over eg ten minutes at a time, to have a street traders licence - generally required only in the main shopping areas. These usually cost from several hundred to several thousand pounds depending on location.

Hi Rizah,

Firstly congratulations on building and soon to start your own ice cream bike business!

You should contact Enfield Council and confirm with them as each council varies. You will probably have to get a hawkers or street trading licence which should not cost too much.

If you intend to sell on private land such as car boot sales, markets, forecourts, fetes, or fairs then you don’t need a licence to trade.

It’s also a good idea to get some Product/Public liability Insurance to cover you against the public and also think about getting your bike insured.
