Catering Van On Own Land Providing Services to School Children & Parents?

by Ian
(Burton on Trent)

We want to site a small mobile catering van on our own land. The property runs parallel to a school drive and the van would front onto this, so providing a service to school children and parents.

The van is situated well away from the main road, so reducing possible hazards.
Our questions are:

1. What permission is required in order to lawfully run the business e.g from the school, council etc.

2. What planning permission is required.

3. Which insurances / certification is required.

Regards,
Ian.

Mobile Catering Near School?
by: David

Hi Ian,

The best advice that I can give you is for you to contact your local council and find out if you are permitted to set up your business in such short proximity to the school.

I believe that you may not be permitted to operate your fast food catering van business as is will be too close to the school.

I say this because a friend of mine tried to set up a fast food business selling chicken and chips, but was told that his business would be too close to the local school and subsequently turned down his application.

I am not saying that all councils have adopted this plan of action but it's worth you checking to make sure before you commit yourself to this business idea.

Best of luck,
David
