Commercial Kitchen Set up Away from House

by sheila

Hi There,

I am looking to open a hot food catering company by cooking the food at my home address and delivery on orders to start with. I have been looking into different options of setting the kitchen up in the quickest way in my back garden away from my home and wondered if you would know of the best, quickest and most cost effective way of doing this?

Thank you
Sheila

Commercial Kitchen From Home
by: David

Hi Sheila,

One way forward could be to either hire a commercial kitchen or have an empty container fitted out with a commercial kitchen.

If you intend to go down this path, you may also be required to apply for planning permission for change of use. Be advised that there may also be other liabilities to consider like the possibility of having to pay business rates, commercial insurance, commercial waste etc not to mention the need to inform your mortgage provider and the landlord if you are renting.

You also need to consider how this type of business may affect the local community in the way of smells, noises and other disruption. I would run this proposal past your local council before you make any plans as they will be able to advise better.

The other options is to rent a commercial kitchen (at another location) on a temporary basis and see how things work out before you go ahead and commit yourself financially.

Let us know how you get on.

Best of luck,
David
