Cost of Doing Up a Catering Trailer

Hi

I am currently in the process of looking for a trailer to start my mobile catering business. I am having a bit of trouble however, finding one that fits my businesses requirements.

I have a small budget of £3000 and for that I need a trailer that is between 8-12 ' in length and 5' ish in width, has a gas deep fat fryer, gas griddle, tea urn, gas fridge and a gas hob.

I know this is asking a lot and finding something that has all those things fitted is proving impossible, at least for the price. Most trailers just come equipped with the griddle, maybe a fryer and a Bain Marie.

I'm wondering if I am better off just buying an empty shell, ideally with worktops and flooring and walls all sorted) and adding the catering equipment myself. Problem is, I know nothing about this kind of thing, how much it costs or how to fit it, so I would need to pay someone to do it.

Assuming I got the trailer for £1000, do you think it would be possible to buy and fit all that equipment with the remaining £2000? Or am I better off just looking and praying for one that already has it.

Sorry I know that's not the easiest question, I just have no idea where to go to find out this kind of thing.

Cheers

Paul

Doing Up A Mobile Catering

Hi Paul,

This is a tricky question. I would just get some quotes and see what it’s going to cost you to buy the shell at the size you want, and then fit the equipment you need. I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to do it yourself as you’re not an LPG engineer.

Eventually, you will need to get it LPG tested and if you don’t know what you are doing, you’re going to have to pay someone to put it right anyway.

It's a lot of work to take on, try your best to avoid it if possible.

Also if you did find a trailer at the right size, but missing the equipment you want, you can always add the extra catering equipment you need anyway.

Best of luck
David
