HI...i have a trailer and have found a layby close to my home to operate from...i rang the highways agency and they said they usually are fine about this as long as there are no complaints.

I know there was previously a trailer there but the owner passed away...is it a good idea to keep the highways agency informed of being there?...

Also a local industrial estate is nearby, can i ask for permission from the owners to trade from there? i am willing to pay rent for it....help please!!!!

Hello Chris,

Yes it’s a good idea to keep the highways agencies updated since if you wish to trade there at some point, the council will/may correspond with them to confirm that you have their permission to trade on the lay-by.

With regards to the local industrial estate as long as you get permission from the landowners it’s not a problem.

When you register with the local council they will want to see some sort of proof that you have the landowner’s permission to trade either a letter or some sort of contract
