Mobile Catering Van - Driving License Question

Hi, I'm about to set up my burger van & was wondering if my license enables me to tow a catering van - I passed my test in December 2006?

Also if I am insured for business use on my car insurance does that cover insurance for the van or do I need a seperate insurance policy to cover the burger van?

If you passed your test after 1997 you Can NOT tow
by: Anonymous

Hi, I just came across this and thought I had to comment... You definitely can not tow a trailer if you passed your test after 1997 without a secrete B&E test. I know this as my husband and I have recently bought a caravan and he had o take a sewerage driving test to enable him to tow.

The DVLA website explains all this - basically a law came into place in 1997 that in order to tow you have to take and pass a separate test (B&E test) therefore everyone who passed after that date is not automatically entitled to tow. Anyone who passed before 1997 can do.

Once you have passed you will get a new license which details on it you have passed the B&E. if you only passed in 2006 you MUST take and pass the B&E test otherwise you will be towing illegally without the relevant license & the fine is £1000!!!!!!!

catering van
by: Anonymous

hello,
i am a student doing a degree course in hospitality and for my entrepreneurship assignment i have choosen to look at starting up a catering van business. therefore i have to create a business plan and produce a presentation. I wouldl like to know insurance would be needed to cover the catering van, how you would cost a set portion such as a salad, what legislation/licensing will apply and what would be the return on investment.
thank you

Towing a Catering Trailer
by: David

Hi There,

You are able tow a catering trailer up to 3500kg, and with regards to your car insurance – it will not cover your commercial catering van, for this you will need a separate policy.

Best of luck
David
