Wanting to Buy a Waffle/crepe Tricycle- Any Advice Greatly Appreciated

Hi guys,

I'm wanting to set up selling waffles and crepes at my friends busy farmers market. I am totally new to all this and the idea of a tricycle really appeals as visually beautiful and I could hire for events. But does anyone have any advice? How do would you store all the ingredients- can they come with a fridge and shelf with the waffle griddle? How are they powered? Would you recommend I started with a stall before the expense of a tricycle or should I just go for it?

Thanks
Vicki

Starting a Waffle & Crepe Tricycle Business at a Farmers’ Market
by: MobCater

Hey Vicki,

Great idea! A waffle and crepe tricycle looks amazing and attracts attention. It also gives you flexibility. You can trade at markets and book private events. Since you’re new to this, here’s a breakdown of what to consider.

1. Storing Ingredients on a Tricycle

You’ll need to keep batter, fruit, and cream fresh. A built-in fridge or cool box helps. Many tricycles use a rechargeable battery, gas, or ice packs for cooling. Shelves and compartments store dry goods and utensils. Some models even have a sink with a water tank. Keeping everything organized makes work easier.

2. Powering the Equipment

Most waffle makers and crepe griddles run on LPG gas. It’s portable and reliable. Some setups use battery power for fridges and lights. Solar panels work too, but they may not run everything. If your market has power outlets, you might plug in appliances directly.

3. Should You Start with a Stall or a Tricycle?

Each option has pros and cons.

✅ A stall costs less. A basic setup includes a table, gazebo, and gas griddle. It lets you test the market before committing.
✅ A tricycle stands out. Customers notice it. You can also take it to weddings and events.

Renting a tricycle first might be a smart step. It lets you try the concept before spending thousands.

4. Other Things to Consider
📜 Licensing & Hygiene: Register your food business. Take a food safety course. Get public liability insurance.
📍 Location & Demand: Farmers' markets can be busy, but check their rules for mobile traders.
💰 Startup Costs: A tricycle with equipment costs £3,000 - £7,000. A stall setup costs £1,000 - £2,500.
🎪 Extra Income: You can book events like weddings and corporate catering for bigger profits.

Final Thoughts

A tricycle gives you a unique, flexible business. It also requires investment and planning. If you're unsure, start small with a stall. Either way, you’re on an exciting path! Let me know if you need help. Best of luck MobCater
